We wanted to help the kids focus on giving rather than receiving this year. They did a lot of acts of kindness around the house, as well as being Salvation Army bell ringers and being a Secret Santa to two kids in our town. I think picking out gifts for other kids was their favorite part of Christmas this year.
We built gingerbread houses at both of their schools. Benson did a great job in his school's play, The North Pole. He sang lots of songs and even had a speaking part. Grandma and Papa Choo Choo came for Christmas and we had a good time seeing the Festival of Lights, ice skating and going to the new Mary Poppins movie. Benson liked it so much he cheered loudly at the end of the movie for everyone to hear.
We got to see Santa twice! The boys wrote him nice letters and were sure to leave out milk and cookies for him. They also made sure their room was sparkling clean so that their stuffed animals could come to life while Santa visited our house. They went to bed early and told us to go to bed to so that Santa could come! I think they were more excited to see what their animals had been up to in the night than their presents under the tree. Although, they are pretty excited about going to Disneyland in a few weeks! On the more spiritual side of things, they enjoyed learning Jesus' different names from our Christmas ornaments and reading and acting out the Nativity from Luke 2 Christmas Eve.
